Richard Olate, age 55, grew up in South America and came to the United States at age 33.  He is a third-generation circus performer. Richard and his son Nicholas, age 19, use mostly dogs from rescue shelters in their act.

The Olate Dogs won the top prize of one million dollars!

Can you name these stars?

Who are these people?

Perhaps you can recognize Jennifer Lopez. The others are all household names too. They are the Season 11 judges and the host of American Idol, a reality TV show much like Star Academy.

Steven Tyler (left) is the lead singer of a Boston band from the 1970s called Aerosmith. Have you ever heard of them? Perhaps you have -- if you have ridden the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at Disney in Paris...

Ryan Seacrest is the host of the program. He also hosts On Air with Ryan Seacrest a nationally syndicated radio program.

Finally, the judge on the right, like Seacrest, has been with American Idol since the beginning. Randy Jackson is a Grammy award-winning record producer. Note: although Michael Jackson does have a younger brother named Randy, this is not the same person.

September 11, 2001
 
The terrorist attacks by Al-Qaeda on September 11, 2001 caused nearly 3,000 immediate deaths. There were 246 victims on four hijacked airplanes, 2,606 killed in New York City in the World Trade Center and on the ground, plus 125 people at the Pentagon, the United States' headquarters for the Department of Defense. The 19 hijackers also perished on the planes.

The dead were not only Americans. There were 372 foreign nationals (excluding the 19 hijackers) who died in the attacks. All the victims were civilians except for the 55 military personnel who died at the Pentagon (below).

Flight 93 from Newark was highjacked by four men. It crashed into a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania (below). The intended destination was believed to be either the Capitol building or the White House.

It was hard at first to determine the number of dead on September 11, 2001. At one point weeks after the attacks, the death toll was still thought to be over 6,000.
