32 individually wrapped caramels, unwrapped
5 tablespoons heavy cream
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups rolled oats (like Quaker Oats that you find in the cereal aisle)
1 and 1/2 cup brown sugar (Begin Say, in the orange bag works well)
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 and 1/2 cup butter, melted
1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 175 degrees Celsius. Over medium heat, melt the caramels and heavy cream together, stirring occasionally until smooth.
- In a large bowl, stir together the flour, oats, brown sugar, baking soda and salt. Stir in the melted butter until well blended. Press half of the mixture into the bottom of a large baking pan. Keep the rest for later.
- Bake the bottom crust for 8-10 minutes in the oven. Remove the crust and pour the chocolate chips and walnuts on top. Pour the caramel mixture on top and then pour the rest of the crust mixture over everything. Press the mixture flat.
- Bake everything for another 12-15 minutes, or until the top is lightly toasted. Cut into squares while the bars are still warm.
